The Vitiligo Beautified Foundation is dedicated to empowering individuals affected by vitiligo through education, awareness, advocacy, and emotional support. Our mission is to help individuals embrace their unique beauty, build confidence, and improve mental and emotional well-being.
Through community outreach, support groups, and partnerships with healthcare professionals, we strive to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and create safe spaces where individuals living with vitiligo feel seen, supported, and valued.
Dr. Mira Walker is a behavioral health specialist with the South Regional Mississippi Center. She began her clinical experience as a mental health counselor with Stewpot Community Services, and today draws from her own experience living with vitiligo — a skin condition that causes loss of pigmentation — to counsel her patients with empathy and understanding.
When she searched for a local support group for people with vitiligo and couldn't find one, Dr. Walker decided to build one herself. She founded Vitiligo Beautified, a support group based in Jackson, Mississippi, and partnered with Governor Tate Reeves to proclaim June 25, 2021, as Vitiligo Awareness Day in Mississippi.
Dr. Walker's future plans include furthering her research on vitiligo, becoming a leading advocate for vitiligo education, and opening a private practice counseling agency.
